Long before I knew what a genoise was or why chocolate needed a good temper I knew, courtesy of my mother, that bread tastes the best if it comes from your own oven and nothing beats the taste of a home made pie. My journey towards being a pastry chef began at home with mom giving my the freedom in the kitchen to create sweets as long as I shared with everyone and cleaned up after myself!
It wasn’t until I was older that I realized that not everyone was as comfortable in the kitchen as I was so I began to teach my friends how to make pies. That led to teaching friends of friends, then I branched out into teaching cake decorating which led to more and more diverse menus being taught. I love to teach others how to bake and I enjoy seeing the sense of accomplishment in others when they see that they too can create a tiny miracle out of butter, sugar, flour and eggs.
Baking is my art. It is how I express myself to friends and loved ones and how I show them how much I care. Sharing my art means sharing a little piece of me. I’ll be part of someone’s memory every time a recipe is attempted.
