Award-Winning Cake Decorator Miranda Kenney-Pellett has always had a passion for
baking - whether it be making pies with her mom on a stool at the age of 6
covered in flour from head to toe, starting a Christmas baking business with her
sister Stacy in their old childhood neighbourhood or decking out a Betty Crocker
Cake with ridiculous loads of icing and sprinkles with her friends for
birthdays. After receiving the 2008 Betty Crocker Calender from her mom for
Christmas, Miranda started to become more interested in cake decorating after a
few of the cakes from the calender turned out better than expected! After
receiving so much positive response for her family reunion cake, Miranda decided
to look into the Wilton Cake Courses at the local Michael's Arts and Crafts
Store in Waterloo, Ontario.
After completing all of the courses and being
told by her instructor that she had a natural talent, Miranda decided to look
into more advanced classes - and from there, she hasn't looked back! Miranda has
taken classes with a number of professional cake artists including: Food Network
Challenge's Michelle Bommorito, TLC's Ultimate Cake-Off's Courtney Clark, Carrie
Biggers, The Sweet Southern Ladies and Rick Reichart of Cake Lava in Hawaii, as
well as Kaye Hartman from Petal Crafts in California.
Miranda has recently
appeared on Slice TV's "Cake Walk: Wedding Cake Edition", where she competed
against 2 other Canadian Cake Designers to create the dream cake for one lucky
wedding couple and win $5000!
With the business growing so quickly, Miranda
and her husband Luke recently bought a shop/store front in their hometown of
Cardinal, Ontario, where they sell custom cakes and cupcakes, christmas cookies,
and are now looking into starting classes in spring 2012.
Miranda graduated
in 2009 from Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario with a Bachelor's
Degree in Psychology, minoring in Sociology. She believes that her background in
Psychology will better enable her to interact with her clients and give them the
best experience possible!
